Proposals

Welcome back to Sundays with the Chef!

Did you know that 15% of all marriage proposals occur in the month of December? The holidays can be such a magical time that many people must feel like it's the perfect time to ask their significant other to marry them.

Here at Dessert Works, we are definitely seeing the effects of all those December proposals! Many happy couples are calling and booking tastings for their wedding cakes! In fact, Saturday and Sunday appointments for the next few weeks are completely booked solid!

If you are interested in booking a tasting and design consultation for your wedding cake, be sure to give us a call as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. Appointments are already booking into the end of February!

Tea Party

Most little girls love to have pretend tea parties. It is just as much fun for them with a table surrounded by stuffed animal guests as it is with people guests. For this bridal shower cake, the bride-to-be's love of tea parties as a little girl was celebrated!

Green Grosgrain

The band on today's featured Weddings Wednesday cake looks like real, textured, fabric ribbon. But actually, it's a textured rolled chocolate (remember we don't use fondant) band, so it is completely edible!

White Chocolate Raspberry Dome

Today's featured Tasty Tuesday treat is a white chocolate dome filled with fresh raspberry mousse. The dome sits on a base made of chocolate cake and chocolate mousse, covered in chocolate ganache.

Betty Boop

In December, we created a Betty Boop cake for someone's 50th birthday. So much detail work went into this cake that we just had to share some photos with you!

The car itself was made out of cake and covered in rolled chocolate.

Betty Boop, all of her accessories, her dog and all the tiny, intricate gifts
inside the car were hand-sculpted out of white chocolate!

We often create car cakes, but this one had so much detail that it was really a masterpiece!

Wedding Cupcakes!

Wedding cupcakes have become quite popular with couples who don't want a traditional tiered wedding cake. They are easy to serve, and can represent the theme or colors of a wedding through design just as a wedding cake can. Take these cupcakes for example:

We decorated them with buttercream ivy and grape clusters to coordinate with the couple's wedding! We also created a 6" cake in a similar design, so that the bride and groom had something to cut for the traditional cake cutting ceremony.

We have cupcake stands that you can rent for only $25, so you don't have to go out and buy your own. And when the cupcakes are all set up, they make for a beautiful and eye catching display!

Q&A

Today, for Sundays with the Chef, we're asking you what you would like to read about on Sundays!

Is there something you want to ask our Head Chef? Have a baking question? Want to know something about Dessert Works? Wondering how many cakes we create in a week? Curious what our favorite desserts here are?

ASK US! Leave your question in a comment below and we may use your question as the inspiration for an upcoming Sundays with the Chef post!

Monochromatic

Couples often come in for their design consultation thinking that they want to bring the color of the bridesmaids' dresses or their flowers into their cake as well. They think that an all white cake is boring. But most take one look at this cake and completely change their mind!

A monochromatic, all white cake is actually quite beautiful!

Queen of Hearts Tart

If you're a regular here at Dessert Works, you might remember that last year around this time we had a Queen of Hearts Cherry Tart for sale in our retail store.

This year, we're mixing things up a little bit and offering a Queen of Hearts Strawberry Tart!

St. Mark's Basilica

Sometimes it's so busy here at the bakery that instead of going to Italy herself, the chef does her traveling through her creations...

...like with this amazing cake creation of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice for example!

Wavy Wrap

We love today's unique wedding cake!

The loose, wavy, rolled chocolate wrap on this cake is so unique and whimsical. The wallace scroll design adds a touch of classic elegance and the fresh orchids are so delicate and bring in just a touch of pink.

Cookie Classes

Just before Christmas, we held our annual Family Cookie Day here at the bakery. For $65, a family of 4 can register for Family Cookie Day. We have 3 different cookie doughs made up, so that you can scoop, cut and have fun decorating them! Each family takes home approximately 7 dozen cookies that make wonderful gifts for teachers or friends (if you can resist eating them yourselves)!

As you can see, everyone had a lot of fun!

If you missed out, you don't have to wait until next year's Family Cookie Day to join in on the fun. We hold private sugar cookie classes throughout the year for birthday parties or even just a group of friends! Classes generally last an hour and a half to two hours, and cost $20 per person, with a minimum group of 12. Each person takes home as many sugar cookies as they can make and decorate during the class (usually 2-3 dozen), with the provided 1 pound of sugar cookie dough and 4+ decorative toppings.

We also schedule classes, open to the public, throughout the year. Please check our website for upcoming classes.

To book a class or for more information, please call us at 781-769-1133.

Convertible

Happy New Year, everyone!

Here in New England, it's much too cold to be driving a convertible. But if you ate this convertible, the calories could keep you warm!

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, prosperous year!
