CollegeFest

We recently created a custom cake for the 25th Anniversary of CollegeFest! The cake was HUGE and had a really fun design, including their logo.

Frosted in vanilla buttercream frosting, the cake was decorated with rolled chocolate applique stripes and dots in blue and orange, and hand-cut chocolate applique of the CollegeFest logo. Blue and orange chocolate curls stuck out of the sides and a hand-sculpted chocolate 25 sat on top.

If you are interested in learning more about CollegeFest, you can visit their website and blog.

Cirque du Soleil

If you read our blog regularly, you already know we announced that we were creating a cake for Cirque du Soleil! We delivered that cake to the cast last Saturday, to celebrate the 500th show of the production OVO. The cake design was inspired by the show itself, and the show's characters, along with some key elements in the show, were recreated by hand out of rolled chocolate!

Cirque du Soleil

We feel honored to tell you today that Dessert Works has been asked to create a cake for the Cirque du Soleil! This cake has been commissioned to celebrate the 500th show of the current production, OVO.

Duff Goldman, of the famous Ace of Cakes television show and Charm City Cakes, created a cake for the Cirque du Soleil show, Kooza. So I'm sure you can imagine how excited we were for the Cirque du Soleil to search us out and ask us to create this cake for them!

We will be sure to take lots of photographs for you and post them to the blog after the cake is complete so that you can see this masterpiece too! And while Cirque du Soleil is in Boston, make sure you go see this incredible show!

Battle of the Cakes

This past Sunday, Dessert Works competed in the Battle of the Cakes at the Simply Elegant Platinum Wedding Expo! Head Chef and Owner, Kristen Repa, along with Assistant Pastry Chef, Amy Ward-Bailey, created this beautiful masterpiece for the competition!

Very similar chair linens seen in an advertisement were the inspiration for this magnificent cake design, so we were very excited to see this display by Simply Elegant Linens at the expo and just had to have our cake photographed with the display!

Wakefield/Varitek Poker Tournament

On May 31st, for the second year, Tim Wakefield & Jason Varitek hosted a Poker Tournament Benefit, as a pre-party to their 2010 Celebrity Golf Classic, sponsored by The Captial Grille & Pitching in for Kids on June 14th.

At the tournament, card sharks had a chance to play Texas Hold 'Em with Wakefield and Varitek, along with other local celebrities, to raise money for Pitching in for Kids. Here at Dessert Works, we had the opportunity to create and donate a custom cake for this great event!

Now they're adding Varitek.

Look how tiny the cards and poker chips are that were made and added by hand!

The final result!

The stools, rug, cards, chips, and beer bottles were all handmade out of chocolate!

Mayo Bowl

Back in March, we created and donated a cake for Jerod Mayo's 1st Annual Mayo Bowl, a bowling tournament fundraiser. The tournament was a great success and all the proceeds went to Pitching in for Kids!

The cake was a big hit too and we were happy to donate it to benefit such a great cause!

Those pins and that bowling ball - they're made out of chocolate! And the wood grain on the lane itself is hand-done!

Save the Polar Bears

Last winter, we donated $1 from every one of these cute polar bear cookies we sold to the World Wildlife Fund to help save the polar bears.

We were so successful last year, that this year we're hoping that you'll help us exceed last year's donation of $118!

Stop by today and $1 from every polar bear cookie you purchase will go directly to the World Wildlife Fund!

It's also Valentine's Day, so while you're here, be sure to pick up something sweet (like some of our heart shaped cookies or an individual heart-shaped red velvet cake) for your sweetheart!

We're open today from 10am - 2pm!
