Custom Fall Topper

Today's Weddings Wednesday wedding cake was a custom creation with special meaning to the bride and groom.

Brown rolled chocolate bands were placed along the bottom of each tier, and rolled chocolate leaves were scattered as if they had fallen from the custom tree topper.

The custom topper was a hand-sculpted chocolate tree with autumn leaves. Underneath the tree sat a hand-sculpted chocolate dog.

We're Moving!

That's right! In January 2011, Dessert Works will be moving into Lambert's Plaza in Westwood!

We will be opening the retail store only at the Westwood location in the beginning of November. But don't worry! Our Norwood store will remain open through the end of December, so you'll have plenty of reminders about the move! And with 2 locations for a short period of time, you'll have no problem getting all your favorite holiday desserts!

January 1st, the doors at the Norwood store will close permanently, and we will move everything right down the road! We will likely be closed at the Westwood location for the first 2 weeks of January, in order to get everything moved and set up in the kitchen. And of course, be sure to stop by and check out our brand new Westwood store in mid-January!

We recently created a custom cake for the 25th Anniversary of CollegeFest! The cake was HUGE and had a really fun design, including their logo.

Frosted in vanilla buttercream frosting, the cake was decorated with rolled chocolate applique stripes and dots in blue and orange, and hand-cut chocolate applique of the CollegeFest logo. Blue and orange chocolate curls stuck out of the sides and a hand-sculpted chocolate 25 sat on top.

Today is the first day of autumn! Some of us welcome the change from the summer heat, while others dread the inevitable onset of winter. Whichever side you're on, you have to admit, there's nothing quite like the beauty of New England in the fall. So to celebrate the changing of the seasons, we're sharing an autumn inspired wedding cake for Weddings Wednesday today.

This 3 tier cake was frosted in vanilla buttercream and had our interlocking scroll design on all tiers in chocolate buttercream. The cake was then decorated with a top bouquet and side clusters of rolled chocolate autumn leaves and grape clusters.

Pumpkin Spice Roulade

Our Blog Special of The Week in the retail store this week is our Pumpkin Spice Roulade!

Our Pumpkin Spice Roulade starts with our delicious, tender spice cake. We then spread our light and fluffy pumpkin mousse over the cake and roll it to create the roulade.

To finish, it is garnished with fresh whipped cream and confectioner's sugar. The Pumpkin Spice Roulade will be out for you to sample in our retail store during the week. Dr. Seuss

"One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish..."

Anthony's 1st birthday was celebrated Dr. Seuss style with this fantastic cake creation!

The cake was frosted in colored buttercream, and the characters were created out of rolled chocolate! The hat on top was cake covered in a rolled chocolate covering.

A wedding cake order and wedding cookie favor order together totaling:
  • $400 - $700 = $25 gift certificate
  • $701 - $1,000 = $50 gift certificate
  • $1,001 - $1,200 = $75 gift certificate
  • Over $1,200 = $100 gift certificate
The details of the Complete Wedding Package are as follows:
  • You must book your wedding cake and wedding cookie favors before December 31, 2010, but you can book for any date in the future.
  • A 50% deposit on your wedding cake and wedding favor cookie order is due at the time of booking.
  • The gift certificate will expire on the date of your wedding.

Baseball season is coming to an end and we thought we should share this unique wedding cake with you before it is officially over. Casey and Dan had their wedding reception at The Bleacher Bar right outside Fenway Park in August. So what is more appropriate for them than a baseball themed wedding cake!
This 4 tier wedding cake was frosted in vanilla buttercream frosting. It featured red baseball stitching also in buttercream and a few side clusters of red buttercream roses.

Fall Menu

Summer is coming to an end, and the delightful, comforting smells of cinnamon, ginger, apple and pumpkin are radiating from our kitchen! So that can only mean that it's time to introduce our Fall Menu! Vanilla chiffon cake layered with creamy caramel mousse and fresh sliced apples seasoned with cinnamon and ginger. Our autumn version of the Fresh Strawberries & Cream cake.

Moist, tender pumpkin cake, layered with maple mousse and finished in vanilla buttercream with our autumnal leaf design.

Bruins Groom's cake

Recently, Allison & Derek ordered their wedding cake and groom's cake from us! Derek loves hockey, particularly the Boston Bruins, so Alison had us create this groom's cake for him as a surprise!

On top of their wedding cake, they also had a hockey themed bride and groom topper!

With these cakes together, we were able to give them a more traditional wedding cake and still incorporate Derek's love of hockey with a fun groom's cake!

Rosh Hashanah

The Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah starts at sunset tomorrow and goes until Friday. Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the Jewish New Year. Traditional desserts served usually feature apples or honey, symbolic of a sweet new year.

For your Rosh Hashanah celebrations, our Rustic Apple Tart and Nectarine Almond Tart will be available in our retail store starting today!

The Rustic Apple Tart has a flaky, buttery crust. The filling is made with fresh, hand-cut golden delicious apples, and it is topped with a streusel topping. This delicious dessert is made in a 9 inch size and is $18.50.

The Nectarine Almond Tart has a tender, buttery, almond frangipane filling. Fresh sliced nectarines are fanned beautifully on top, and almonds decorate the outer edge. The Nectarine Almond Tart comes in an 8 inch size and is $21.

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Juleen and Ed had their wedding reception at Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton, MA at the end of June and we were able to create their wedding cake for them!

Juleen and Ed saw a cake in our portfolio with raised tiers and filled with fresh berries, and decided that they wanted their tiers raised and the space filled with chocolate dipped strawberries! So that's exactly what we did for them! YUM! The design work on their cake alternated between our champagne dot design and our interlocking scroll design, and featured a custom "F" on the middle tier. The cake was then topped with a bouquet of pink rolled chocolate roses.
